Adult male Cooper's Hawk at rest 4/07/2019
Adult male Cooper's Hawk dropped down to the ground looking like a cyborg here 4/07/2019. Those odd looking orbs are its nictitating membrane over each eye. Another eyelid that serves as protection from damage. It could be from blowing debris, something it has caught or just when he preens himself, so he doesn't nick his eye with something. Without their eyes they would not be successful hunters.
Adult male Cooper's Hawk found part of a meal it had caught earlier and apparently dropped while eating it 4/07/2019
